• Designing and building of traditional Japanese wooden architecture

Owner: Masako Yoshida (Professer)

My all family are satisfied genuinely since we live in Chofu House built by Seyseysha, Mr. Fukada. The house is appropriate to the lush greenery, Chofu. My friends who visit here say that being at this house makes me feel calm and at ease.

Before building, Mr. Fukada told me that the house built by traditional construction methods pleased your body, now I realize that. Floor of solid wood gentle with skin, pillars and a stair rail give a good touch feeling, and jointed wood of ceiling enjoy my eyes and I don’t get tired of just looking at that. I’m in the house, but I feel like being in outside, being in nature. I think it might be because of wood and tsuchikabe (clay reinforced by bamboo laths). The inside mood and atmosphere have changed in our house. I think that since we started living in this house, our mind and body have become healthy.

We learned a lot of things from Mr. Fukada, including the attitude of building house putting in a lot of time and effort, the story he told us occasionally, and his writing. I’m also going to tell what I learned from him to the next generation that hands over the house at the same time. I ardently hope that Mr. Fukada raises apprentices or successors, and houses built using Japanese traditional construction methods will be handed down from generation to generation with the philosophy.
